Nia Vardalos, who created “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, recently files for divorce from her husband, Ian Gomez, after nearly 25 years of marriage. Her 1993 wedding motivated her to write and create the hit flick “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Unfortunately, the marital relationship lasted for less than three decades.

As TMZ reported, Nia submitted separation papers in Los Angeles court on Tuesday. The couple has been wed since 1993. However, the Canadian-American actress detailed in her filing that she and her hubby separated since June 29, 2017.

She said that they have been separated for an extended time period. Their partnership came to be a friendship. Thus, the choice to finish it is entirely mutual and friendly. They are hoping that coverage of this story will be reasonable and they are asking the public for their personal privacy while they deal with this matter.

Irreconcilable Differences
It’s a common reason for the many Hollywood couples who opted to separate. The two are requesting joint lawful and physical guardianship of their child, who is now 11 years old.

Their 1993 Wedding and the My Big Fat Greek Wedding
After the pair’s wedding in 1993, Nila created the popular movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” The movie was partly based upon her very own experiences. She starred in the said movie, which was released in 2002. She played Toula Partokalos. In that film, she falls for non-Greek Ian Miller, played by John Corbett. Her husband, Ian Gomez, also starred in this film but he portrayed John’s best man, Mike.

Nila and Ian never had a biological child. They adopted their daughter, Ilaria. Her experience during the adoption process was detailed in the book that she wrote, “Instant Mom”. Nia was born in Winnipeg. Her parents are of Greek Canadian descent. Ian Gomez converted to Greek Orthodox before he wed Nia.

In that book, she detailed her becoming an instant mother when they adopted their little girl using American foster care. At that time, the baby was nearly three years old and the whole process of being a mother was almost accelerated for her. She said that the feeling felt like she was quickly pushed down a hillside while skiing without poles.

In 2016, Nia told the USA Today, during her interview, that her little girl’s initial day of preschool influenced her to create “My Big Fat Wedding 2”. The movie was released in 2016. She and Ian Gomez reprised their very same roles.

The first movie was a massive, commercial success. In fact, she earned an Academy Award Nomination for Best Writing. She also received a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

Then, since 2015, she and her other half co-presented the Great American Baking Show. It was previously referred to as “The Great Holiday Baking Show”.

Now, Nia and Ian will join the list of The Biggest Celebrity Splits in 2018. Most of us are still not over yet when Chris Pratt and Anna Farris or Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced their separation. We’re hoping that David and Victoria Beckham’s marriage won’t be over. Else, we’d really like to think that Hollywood marriages will never last.
